Originally brewed in England for the Russian royal family, this stout had to be bold enough to withstand the long Baltic crossing and rich enough to please the czar. Also popular with the soldiers, it was thought to have restorative powers. We spent months refining the recipe on our 5-barrel system. When we had a stout that was fit for a king, we brewed a single batch to share.
