Bike from Work Bash – Biking Fort Collins

Whether you want to take a long ride on one of the trails in Fort Collins or cruise to your next brewery to relax and sip on your favorite beer, Fort Collins is the place for both. We encourage co-workers and guests alike to get outside and bike. Odell Brewing Co. was recently awarded Silver in the Bicycle Friendly Business Awards. The City of Fort Collins has been celebrating our bike community for over two decades with Bike to Work Day. Five years ago, we decided to support and celebrate our cycling community (the Odell way) by hosting a Bike from Work Bash every June and December to help support a local non-profit called the Fort Collins Bike Library.

“The FC Bike Library is a popular bike lending service for residents, students, and visitors who are looking for a fun and affordable way to get around on two wheels. Managed by the City of Fort Collins and operated by Bike Fort Collins, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, FCBL provides an affordable and dependable resource for bicycle sharing and advocacy while promoting a positive cycling culture. Anyone with a valid ID and credit card can rent a bike for $10 per day. Open daily at 9am,” said Stacy Sebeczek, Director at FC Bike Library.

Although many people in Fort Collins bike daily, there are a few things to remember when sharing the road. Nate, owner of Brave New Wheel, said,” There is a large population of bikers here. There is definitely a bike culture and the more you get involved with it, the more you’ll be a part of that community. The infrastructure for biking is great (when there isn’t construction everywhere). The Poudre trail and the Spring Creek trail are two trails you can utilize and do a 40-50 mile loop without have to use the road. If you DO bike on the road, make sure there are bike lanes.” There are other ways to stay safe on the road too. Stacy tells us, “Get a helmet that you love and wear it. Ride the same way that you would if you were in a car – defensively and respectfully.  Ride as far to the right as you safely can and don’t hesitate to take the lane when you need to. Use more lights than you think you need at night, and rock the blinkies. It’s hard to miss a bright blinking light. Hand out smiles and waves with abandon.”

This year our Bike from Work Bash is being held on Wednesday, June 24. Stacy reminds us, “This is a great opportunity to remind our community of the bicycle resources available in our town – the Bike Library being only one of many amenities that make Fort Collins an attractive place to ride. It’s a great event for mingling and celebrating with fellow cycling enthusiasts, and provides us an opportunity to connect with the many residents whose visiting families use the FCBL bikes to experience Fort Collins like a local. We are very grateful for Nathan of Brave New Wheel, who has once again graciously donated a bike to the giveaway. All ticket proceeds directly support the Bike Library. This year we hope to raise over $600 so that we may purchase a few more kids’ bikes for our fleet.”

Bike to the brewery and receive one free classic pint on us! We will have live music in our tap room from 4-6pm, a local food truck, your favorite brews for purchase, and a chance to win a bike from Brave New Wheel. Get out there, get on the road, and stay safe!
